Logline:
Post WWII, These boys find themselves constantly abused by their father and finally decide they've had enough. They run and run until they find a veteran's tavern that reluctantly gives them refuge. They are fiercely protected and finally can dream of flying away to be completely free from the rest of the world. The boys construct a wagon-plane that just might work.
Note:
Any element of the bar that we could alter, we did so to make the kids appear smaller than reality. The department had to step into the mindset of the children on set which helped us to effectively put the focus on them and action towards them felt heightened.
Film Stills
Process
In order to make this barn into a tavern, we had to construct a bar where they used to keep hay. We created an L-shaped bar and stained the wood to match the environment. We then set dressed with multiple tables, peanuts, glassware, and period-accurate items like a parachute draped from the second level. The room the boys stayed in was dressed to be a storage closet with old boxes, an extra mattress, and items that simply were too broken to be in the front room.
